As a college professor, I can't tell you the number of semesters that I have introduced myself to a new class of students by telling them about my inquisitive nature. I have, over the years, told students that I can relate to their interest in their professor. Every semester, I confess to a new class of undergrads that, "as a student, I always wanted to know the background of that person who got to stand up in the front of the classroom, so here's my story." I feel, like my students, that if I am going to learn from someone, or take their advice, I'd want to know the source, too. In that same spirit, (and just for you curious types), here are my basic stats:
Ph.D. in Art History, Dept. of Art & Architectural History, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA M.A. in Art History and Museum Studies, Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies Program, Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT B.A. in American History, Department of History,
Curated numerous art exhibitions on Renaissance, modern, American, contemporary and African art history. Worked within the museum community as a director, curator, and educator for more than 10 years at institutions including the Yale University Art Gallery, the Palmer Museum of Art at the Pennsylvania State University, and the Allentown Art Museum. Faculty member and art historian responsible for undergraduate instruction in art history and museum studies courses at colleges and universities in the eastern United States. Written and published books including my most recent on Abstract Expressionism and Seymour Lipton, exhibition catalogues, articles, essays, and exhibition reviews on topics including Renaissance art and American modernism. Presented public lectures and presentations to museum and community audiences, artist groups, undergraduates and graduates as well as within the context of scholarly seminars and conferences.
