Dr. Lori says:
Dr. Lori can visit your online auctions or accompany you when purchasing. Learn more ... Many of us enjoy the online auction sites like
Ebay, yet when it comes to buying art and antiques, we don't always know as much as we should before bidding online. There are many misrepresented items, incomplete, or damaged items that from which we must safeguard ourselves. Look for complete information and good images of front and back of pieces. Damaged or incomplete items, like
this pair of lamps described as art deco (from the 1920s-30s) which were actually made in the 1950s are the types of items to avoid.
Along with the pitfalls, there are good deals and bargains to be found on online auctions too. For instance, one seller was willing to let a $500 oyster plate go for a mere $20 while another dealer gave up a lovely painting worth about $8,000 for $200 because they didn't realize what they had. Educate yourself, know what you are looking for, and don't get caught up in the emotion of buying at auction, whether it's online or not.
Submit your question , images, and
related stories for consideration on a future show or bring your art and antiques to one of Dr.
Lori's appraisal programs throughout the CBS 3
TV viewing area.
