Exhibition A Thin Line ~ A Broad Brush Susquehanna Art Museum Gallery Talk by Dr. Lori From the Director (video)
Videos require RealPlayer® Help? Art historian and Masterpiece Technologies Inc.'s director Dr. Lori guest curated the exhibition "A Thin Line ~ A Broad Brush: The Art of Bruce Johnson," which is hosted by the Susquehanna Art Museum in Harrisburg, PA from February 24 through May 31, 2002. The show features more than 100 works in oil, watercolor, and pen and ink by the prominent Central Pennsylvanian and internationally recognized artist Bruce Johnson. As an expert and scholar in American art, Dr. Lori was approached by the Museum to curate this first major museum exhibition of Johnson's work. As curator, Verderame places Johnson's work within the context of art history. "Johnson's watercolors reference the tradition of American plein air painting or painting outdoors in artist groups like the great watercolorists Winslow Homer, Emile Gruppe, Edward Hopper and Harrisburg, PA's Seven Lively Artists" states Verderame. Johnson also brings art to Everyman using popular images from American culture in his pen and inks like fellow artists in working in the 1980s, Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf." Johnson studied with American art masters including: Pennsylvania Impressionist Walter Emerson Baum, American art legend Will Barnet, Op Artist Edna Andrade, and Philadelphia colorist Jane Piper. Johnson's works are included in the collections of the Pennsylvania State University, Hershey Foods, the Children's Miracle Network and Binney & Smith/Crayola, among others. The State of Pennsylvania, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Ronald McDonald House Charities have also commissioned works by Johnson.
