an online appraisal for your artwork from Dr. Lori Photography is HOT! When Imogen Cunningham's vintage black and white gelatin silver print, Magnolia Blossom: Tower of Jewels circa 1925, was sold at auction for $145,000, the word was out. This represented the highest price paid for any work by the female photographer from California active in the early years of the 20th century. In addition, this piece boasts a very enviable reputation for bringing one of the highest prices ever paid for a photograph sold at auction. With this auction event, the Cunningham sale solidified the strength of art photography in the world auction market in the minds of many market analysts. It follows that many new and established collectors are looking to photography for strong investment opportunities as well as for captivating pieces. More and more, I find that people in the arts are looking, learning, and loving photographs. Color, black and white, cameraless work, cibachrome prints, platinum prints, pinhole prints, gelatin silver prints, and lately, digital imagery. No matter the format, photos are in high demand. Photography's history is comparatively short, beginning only in the latter part of the 1860s. If you want to read more about the history of photography, I suggest Naomi Rosenblum's text called A World History of Photography which may be purchased online at Amazon.com. I hope, armed with this interesting material, that you'll begin thinking about, discussing, and adding photography to your collections. I'm sure you'll enjoy photography at a new level.
