This illustrated, multi-media presentation focuses on American art and culture since mid-century. As America achieved its position as a world power and modern industrial nation, the art history chronicled those changes. From Abstract Expressionism to Post Modernism, this lecture will survey the events, styles, and impact of the visual arts. The impact of World War II, the Civil Rights and Women's movements, and the Cold War will be discussed and works by Pollock, Warhol, Shapiro, and Haring among others will be featured in their historical context. Throughout art history, Pennsylvania has been home to a great number of famous and influential painters. From the colonial period to the present, the Keystone State has been a training ground and home to many of the most important painters in art history. This lecture will provide an overview of the art historical styles as well as a concentration on how Pennsylvania painters shaped the history of art. The impact of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the nation's oldest art school, and the New Hope artist colony will be featured. Artists including Charles Willson Peale, Thomas Eakins, Robert Henri, Walter Baum, Charles Sheeler, Franz Kline, Andy Warhol and Keith Haring will be discussed. While we think of traditional, colonial buildings as the architecture of Pennsylvania, the state is dotted with numerous examples of modern ideas in the history of architecture. This illustrated, multi-media presentation will provide an overview of the styles and historic perspectives of some of Pennsylvania's most famous buildings and architects. An American Sculptor: Seymour Lipton Dr. Lori, director of www.DrLoriV.com and Masterpiece Technologies Inc. will present this lecture on Abstract Expressionism and the work of sculptor Seymour Lipton. Dr. Lori has written a book entitled An American Sculptor: Seymour Lipton in conjunction with the traveling exhibition of Lipton's constructed metal sculpture and she will expand upon the topics discussed in her book. After opening with a six-month showing at the Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State University at University Park, PA in January 2000, the exhibition traveled to the Elvehjem Museum of Art on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI, the McNay Museum of Modern Art in San Antonio, Texas, and the Brunnier Art Museum on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. New Hope Art and Architecture Walking Tours Guided by art historian and author, Dr. Lori, the tours focus on the Pennsylvania Impressionists, the New Hope Modernists, and the region as a major American artist colony. The historic tour also highlights prominent architectural sites within New Hope from the Revolutionary War, Federal, and Victorian periods.
