Art since 1950 tour at Philadelphia Art Museum As America achieved its position as a world power and modern industrial nation, the art history chronicled those changes. From Abstract Expressionism to Post Modernism, this tour will survey the events, artists, and impact of the visual arts. The impact of World War II, the Civil Rights and Women's movements, and the Cold War will be discussed using related works on display at the museum. and American Impressionists tour at Philadelphia Art Museum Impressionism was a strong artistic force which started in France before making its way to America. A knowledgeable and entertaining speaker, Dr. Lori will explore French and American Impressionism and examine the careers of such famous French and American painters as Monet, Rodin, Degas, John Singer Sargent, J. A. M. Whistler, and Mary Cassatt. She will highlight the artist colonies of Argenteuil, Giverny, New Hope, Cape Cod, and Cos Cob, Connecticut. The tour will focus on the themes and influences of this major artistic style and on the paintings of the French countryside and cityscapes, as well as American landscape paintings which are on display at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. tour at the James A. Michener Art Museum Following the tradition of the French Impressionists
before them, Pennsylvania Impressionists such as Walter
Emerson Baum, Edward Redfield, and Daniel Garber painted the landscape
of Pennsylvania in a style that is still popular today. Many of these
artists taught classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts during
the school year while spending their summers in New Hope, PA. This tour will
focus on the works of these artists as well as others in the current
exhibition at the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, PA. |
