A native of the Bronx, New York, Harold Altman was a student at the Art Students League and Cooper Union. He studied abroad in Paris and worked to become a painter and printmaker of international renown.

Biography

Altman signatureAltman’s work resides in the collections of major museums such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State University where he served as an art professor from 1962 to 1976. He also taught at the University of Wisconsin and the University of North Carolina. He worked in and around State College, Pennsylvania and converted a church into his studio near the hamlet of Lemont, PA.
